HUMAN RIGHTS DAY 2020
History & Celebration
The 10th of December marks the yearly celebration of World Human Rights Day and this year the holiday is just as important as ever. The day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. They created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which proclaims “the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birth or another status.” This year we want to point out these important points:
- Human rights are important to all of us, every single day!
- Shared humanity helps us have universal values centered around equality, justice, and freedom
- There’s no need for a holiday for us to stand up for our rights and those of others
A quote to remember:
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home — so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. […] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”
Eleanor Roosevelt
Let’s work together to uphold freedom and equality.
