SEND A CARD TO A FRIEND DAY

THE BENEFITS OF SENDING CARDS

Greeting cards have been around since the 19th century. In fact, John Callcott Horsely designed the first Christmas Card in 1843 right before commercial card production started in the 1860s.

But, why do we send greeting cards? In this day and age there are tons of other ways to connect online, so what is the importance of receiving a handwritten card?

  • Communicates Touch
Cards are often sent to those we love that are far away. It signifies a touch
between the sender and receiver because both are touching the same object. This will help you feel closer to each other.
  • Increase our Sense of Well-Being
Receiving a thoughtful and personal card brings around feelings of self-esteem and self-worth. It can also help the receiver feel less alone.
  • Communicates Time and Effort
Nothing signifies thoughtfulness and effort like a hand-written card. It can help the receiver feel valuable and worthwhile.

Library Lovers Month

February is dedicated to the people and the buildings in our community that are for reading, housing, finding, studying, and otherwise loving books.

We hope you use this as a reminder to order a book online or over the phone at your local library. There are hundreds of books being distributed even during COVID times. You can usually pick up right at the front door.

Another great opportunity is to use this month to donate to your local library– they need the support to grow, change, adapt and continue to serve our communities.

5 Reasons we love the library:

1. You can find all kinds of books and be adventurous choosing what you want to read because they are free and easy to access.
2. You can check out ebooks and audiobooks easily via Overdrive.
3. They have a great selection of videos, including TV shows and movies.
4. They are cozy and have perfect nooks and crannies for reading.
5. They are open to everyone and have something that everyone is looking for– books, movies, quiet time, you name it!

MY LIBRARY

A poem by Varda One

It’s only a room with shelves and books,
but it’s far more magical than it looks

It’s a jet on which I soar
to lands that exist no more.

Or a key with which I find
answers to questions crowding my mind.

Building my habit of learning and growing, asking, and researching till I reach knowing.

Here, I’ve been a mermaid and an elf
I’ve even learned to be more myself.

I think that I shall never see
a place that’s been more useful to me.

With encouraging kind friends with wit
Who tell me to dream big and never quit.

It’s only a room with shelves and books,
but it’s far more magical than it looks.
